Queer Dream Tarot Reflection: Nine of Wands Reversed

The estimated read is 5 minutes.

It’s the second week of pride, and I’m continuing to use Queer Tarot, my newest deck, for shared collective dream tarot readings for reflection. Finding this post sometime in the future? Take what feels right for you.

What is dream tarot?

I shared in my previous post this month, with the two of pentacles, that Dream tarot is what I’ve been calling my flavor of tarot reading. I believe our waking and sleeping dreams directly correlate to one another, and by better understanding both, we can co-create sustainable and joyful realities. I see tarot as a tool for reflecting on these dreams and helping to decipher them.

Our Card: Nine of Pentacles Reversed

The card I pulled for this month was the Nine of Pentacles reversed using my Queer Tarot deck.

Wands deal with fire, passion, and creativity. They are usually associated with action and what some would call our sacral and sexual energy. When we think of fire energy, we might think of the go-getting Aries, the loud Leo, or the adventurous Sagittarius.

On the opposite end of that, we have the number nine. Nine is associated with the Major Arcana card, the Hermit. The Hermit is associated with slowing down and thinking before taking our next step. It is also associated with the astrological sign of Virgo, which people consider practical and organized.

Nine is a number that represents being on the last leg of a journey. In numerology, it’s the final number before completing a cycle and moving into ten or one. Both ten and one share the concept of landing somewhere because of our hard work and luck. It’s about being resourceful with the tools we’ve cultivated to move forward and create the dream we desire.

A note on the reversal: I’m reading it as needing some serious grounding. While fire energy is often energetic, seeing the top of this card closed off by the checkered ground the character stands on and the wands pointing downward, there’s an emphasis on spending a little time to introspect before moving on to the next big creative endeavor or project. The imagery shared in the card shows a pensive character about what’s behind them and what step they take next.

The message: Slow down! Take stock of what projects you have spun up and what needs to be closed out or tidied up before taking your next big step. There will be time to move on to new adventures, but first, consider tying up loose ends or checking off some things on your to-do list.

We can create new realities and move forward with exciting creative endeavors, but we need to try not to overburden ourselves. If there are people to ask for help who have been in similar spots before or past work you’ve done that you can use to complete current work, use it!

Templates, guidance from people IRL and virtually who have been in a similar spot as you, and some reliance on community can help you pull through this little bump in your journey. It’s also totally valid to take some time to yourself to organize and understand your personal priorities. We can be full of creative ideas or exciting adventures we want to embark on, but which ones are well-resourced for the spot we are right now?

Putting the Message into Action

So, how might we practically take the reversed Nine of Wands into our lives? Here are four ways you might start to embody the Nine of Wands(four is a number of bringing imagination and insight into reality). Try out the exercises below:

  1. Reevaluate your calendar and make sure you’re not overbooking yourself with new and exciting events without first following up on previous work that needs to be completed. Make room for some ongoing tasks like keeping the house tidy, working on some personal goals you have, and closing out to-do items you keep pushing off. Also, drop items that weren’t really that important or necessary.

  2. Rest if you are constantly on the move. Take a nap, bathe in a hot soak, participate in some breath work, or maybe even a yin or restorative yoga class. Don’t burn yourself out when you’re on the journey toward your dream.

  3. Take Space in your calendar for some reflection. If you’re always on the go, now is a good time to ensure you carve out some time to evaluate the dreams you have for your life and how your current actions contribute to them. This could look like journaling or taking quick notes on what’s been bouncing around in your head.

  4. Lean on a buddy. You don’t have to go at things alone. If there’s even one person you can catch up with to help you figure out what of all the things you’re involved in really gets you going, the additional ear might provide some clarity. Sometimes, externalizing everything we have helps us see what’s a priority for us versus something that just keeps us busy.
