Analysis of Dreams: A Breakdown of Two Dream Interpretations

Read time: 9 minutes

Dreams can unlock subconscious desires and propel us into waking action, driving us toward our desired destiny.

This belief is what inspires me to keep sharing my perspective on dreams and their interpretations. This time, I’m sharing how to apply the dream interpretation process I shared in my last post, We Dream: A Guide to the Interpreting Dreams You Have When You’re Sleeping.

Below, I’ll break down two recent dreams: one simple and another more complex.

For both these dreams, I’ll focus specifically on the symbols and subsequent interpretations.

Symbols can and do have multiple meanings. I know what these symbols mean to me in my context. Still, I also open myself up to the possibility of my interpretation expanding based on gained knowledge and understanding with time and perspective. You may resonate with how I break down my symbols. That doesn’t mean that what I share is the definitive or only interpretation of the symbol.

For brevity and ease, I will simplify both dreams for this post.

Dreams usually have layers of complex emotions and thoughts. Some portions are deeply personal. A 1:1 or self-guided dream interpretation can help break down these complexities. I provide this service via my Dream Tarot work on my site.

Let’s start!

Dream 1: The car, losing control, and the keys

In this dream, I was in my car, parked in the back of the driveway of a house I used to live in. When I went to pull out of the driveway, my car began to go out of control. It barreled down the street. I could move the steering wheel, but I was driving over and into yards and, at one point, hit the side of a house, unable to slow down or stop the vehicle. Finally, I could maneuver it back into the driveway I started in. It was then I realized I couldn’t control the car because I had not turned it on even though the key was in the ignition—a real dream logic moment.

Dream Symbols

Home: Home is often seen as a space of safety and stability. Representing feelings of confidence and security.

Car: Cars are symbols I often find repeating in my dreams and those I help others interpret. Cars or any vehicle that may have a driver of some sort, think roller coasters, trains, boats, etc, may represent feelings of control. Think of the term or phrase “being in the driver's seat.” When we are in cars, we usually have some direction or planned outcome that we are aware of. We are often going somewhere when we are in vehicles. Even if we’re not exactly sure of the final destination, being in the front seat of a car driving shows we at least have some sort of agency for the outcome we are driving toward. Other positions in relation to a vehicle usually have other meanings, with a running thread being about control and agency.

Keys: Keys are a particular item that helps to unlock access to an action or space. The key I experienced was specifically golden in color, despite my usual keys being dull gray and silver in my waking life. In my experience, dreams showing keys are associated with our self-confidence. It’s like having the power and ability to unlock areas of our lives and feel like we have access or control over situations that might present barriers. The golden color is also associated with the solar plexus chakra, which may represent our ego, pride, and self-confidence.

The interpretation

This dream showed me that I was feeling a lack of control and stability in my life. I wasn’t slowing down to allow myself the opportunity to create or determine the stability and self-confidence I need to move forward in a rational and guided way.

My takeaway was that I needed to redetermine what I needed to feel safe, secure, and stable and trust that I could make the best decisions. I have the keys or confidence, even if I haven’t learned how to use them.

Dream 2: Missing a high school class

In this dream, I was getting in trouble with a teacher for missing four AP English classes my senior year of High School. I was confused since I knew my class schedule, and somehow, these classes fell off my schedule. The class was specifically meant to be held after another class, which was my “tarot reading market class.” In my dream, I would be in the same environment where I would read tarot for monthly markets in the city I’m currently living in. The teacher for my English class was a bit mean-sounding when reprimanding me, but it felt like it came from a space of concern and wanting me to do well. I was allowed to make up for the classes I missed.

The Symbols

Teacher: The teacher, an authoritative figure, was a guide—some might say a “spiritual guide.” They wanted me to do well and reminded me about what I was missing out on to advance. They provided a gentle and somewhat harsh reality check.

Senior Year: Entering senior year of high school can bring up feelings of being on the edge of a new start in life. It’s a space before you graduate to the next level of “adulthood.” It's a new phase where we explore who we are and what we prioritize outside the structure provided by the rigidity of a set schedule and system. There’s also a sense of urgency to do well and complete the tasks we need to complete to graduate.

Missing Class: Missing class may signify missing out on opportunities or tasks needed to advance. These could be essential tasks we are putting off or perhaps even hobbies left unexplored that may benefit our growth.

Class subjects: In my dream, there were two class subjects. One was me doing tarot markets, which directly correlates to my waking world experience of actively working to do events around providing tarot readings and dream interpretations IRL. The other was the AP English class, which correlates directly to writing tasks. AP English is a bit more advanced and often includes exploring subjects that might be a little more nuanced and writing more intensively.

Dream Interpretation

For me, it was simple to understand. In my waking world, I was prioritizing doing tarot markets and events and not doing enough of something else I am passionate about and believe is important, creating written content that explores subjects I enjoy and want to share.

Additionally, sharing written work has been something I’ve done for a long time! I’ve often presented and written about tech, government, and tarot. However, dreams have been a growing topic of interest that I believe can connect with so many people, and I need more energy and effort to share the power of dreams. I believe my written work may help me to connect more with people virtually, which would help me to move to my “next level”, which is traveling more and connecting with people across Texas and the world not only at markets but also through my writing and virtual services.

My takeaway was to write this series you’re currently reading about dreams so I can share my experiences and gain knowledge in a more formal format aside from Instagram posts, captions, short live streams, and text exchanges that can feel lost in the ether after some time. After all, I’ve referenced many random blog posts and written work across the internet and in books in my journey to understand myself and my dreams.

Continuing to create threads that others may pull at and explore is something I’ve been seeking to do. Maybe someone will find these posts 10 years from now, and it will help them on their journey.

In Closing

This is the second in my short series on dream interpretations. In my first post, I explained how to Interpret your dreams. In this post, I share examples of applying the process of dream interpretation. In my next post, I will cover how you might induce or remember dreams if you don’t find yourself dreaming.

There are many aspects of dreams, and this is another post that just scratches the surface. I hope it piques some interest and intrigue on the subject of these powerful and personal spiritual technologies.
